Abstract

As the translation process is a mental one, subject to cognitive processes, the article aims to study the effect of the attention as a cognitive factor in the translation process. After defining the concept of attention and its forms, the study proposes, in the first stage, a design that would explain how the translator manages his attention resources. The article presents in a second stage, an empirical study which aimed to explore the effect of distraction in the translated output and thus in making mistakes. The study adopted a mixed research methodology, quantitative and qualitative. The results showed an increase in the number of errors due to the inability to manage attention resources to the fullest. The article concludes by emphasizing that the attention is affected by the work environment. As the translation process is complicated and requires a cognitive effort, more reflection is needed concerning the work environment appropriate to the profession. On the other hand, the study calls for in-depth reflection on empirical research methodologies and experimental models.

الملخص
انطلاقًا من اعتبار عمليّة الترجمة عمليّة ذهنية تخضع لآليات معرفية، تهدف المقالة إلى دراسة تأثير عامل الانتباه في عملية الترجمة. وبعد تحديد مفهوم الانتباه وأشكاله تقترح الدراسة في مرحلة أولى تصوّرًا لطريقة توزيع المترجم موارد الانتباه لديه على مراحل عمله. ثمّ تعرض المقالة في مرحلة ثانية، لدراسة ميدانية كانت غايتها استكشاف تأثير تشتّت الانتباه في النتاج المترجم وبالتالي في ارتكاب الأخطاء. وقد اعتمدت الدراسة منهجية بحث مختلطة، كمّية ونوعيّة. فبيّنت ارتفاعًا في عدد الأخطاء ناجمًا عن عدم القدرة على إدارة موارد الانتباه على أكمل وجه. تخلص المقالة إلى تأكيد تأثّر الانتباه ببيئة العمل وإلى أنّ تعقّد عملية الترجمة وتطلّبها جهدًا معرفيًا قد يدفعان إلى التفكير أكثر في بيئة العمل الملائمة للمهنة. ودعت، على صعيد آخر، إلى البحث المعمّق في منهجيات البحث الميداني ونماذجه التجريبية
