Abstract

Il était une fois Hassan II (Once Upon a Time, Hassan II), a comic strip published in 1979 by King Hassan II, and On affame bien les rats (We Starve Right the Rats) by Abdelaziz Mourid, another comic strip published in 2000, are two contrasting visions of Morocco – one presented by the King of Morocco and the other by a prisoner under his reign.
The first comic is an autobiography telling the journey of a prince/king – happy childhood, education, accession to the throne, reign, attempted assassinations, political and military victories. This is the Image of Power.
The second comic is the story of political prisoners subjected to physical and psychological torture in cells where they languish like rats.
On the one hand, it is the official history and the rigor of Absolute Power; on the other, it is the violence suffered by prisoners defying that Power. These are two worlds that "ignore each other" and confront one another – through images, among other things.

Il était une fois Hassan II..., bande dessinée publiée en 1979 par le roi Hassan II, et On affame bien les rats de Abdelaziz Mourid, autre bande dessinée publiée en 2000, sont deux visions contrastées du Maroc, présentées par le Roi du Maroc et par un prisonnier sous le règne du premier.
La première bande dessinée est une autobiographie relatant le parcours d’un prince/roi – enfance heureuse, éducation, accession au pouvoir, règne, tentatives d’assassinat, victoires politiques et militaires. C’est l’image du Pouvoir.
La seconde bande dessinée est l’histoire de prisonniers politiques soumis à des méthodes de torture physiques et psychologiques dans des cellules où ils végètent comme des rats.
D’un côté, c’est l’Histoire officielle et la rigueur du Pouvoir absolu ; de l’autre, c’est la violence subie par des prisonniers qui défient ce Pouvoir. Ce sont deux mondes qui « s’ignorent » et qui s’affrontent.
