Abstract

This article is about Turkish political cinema. The cinema, which began with the authorization of the state during the fall of the Ottoman Empire, did not have an important political role during the construction of the Kemalist Republic. In the 1950s, it entered its golden age in pro-American Turkey. At the end of the 1960s, especially in the lead years (1970), political cinema was used on several occasions as part of the ideology of the far right and the revolutionary left. After the violence of the military coup of 1980, it remained rather cynical and disengaged. Political interpretations represented the Kurdish question on several occasions during the democratization process of the 2000s. In recent years, with the pressure of political power and the distribution market, it has been rather in a phase of political zigzagging.

Résumé

Cet article traite du cinéma politique turc. Le cinéma, qui a commencé avec l’autorisation de l’État lors de la chute de l’Empire ottoman, n’a pas eu un rôle politique important lors de la construction de la République kémaliste. Dans les années 1950, il est entré dans son âge d’or dans une Turquie pro-américaine. À la fin des années 1960, notamment dans les années de plomb (1970), le cinéma politique est utilisé à plusieurs reprises dans le cadre de l’idéologie de l’extrême droite et de la gauche révolutionnaire. Après la violence du coup d’État militaire de 1980, il est resté plutôt cynique et désengagé. Les interprétations politiques ont représenté la question kurde à plusieurs reprises au cours du processus de démocratisation des années 2000. Depuis quelques années, avec la pression du pouvoir politique et du marché de la distribution, il fait des zigzags politiques.
