Abstract

This article explores the stakes of the “cinema d’auteur” in Palestine and intends to analyze the constraints and opportunities that this cinema allows, through two case studies that question the cinematographic creation of Palestinian directors in exile. The first is a feature-length film, Recollection by Kamal Aljafari, a filmmaker from “Palestine of 48” who self-produced his film; the second, Dégradé by Arab and Tarzan Nasser, two directors from Gaza, benefited from an Arab-European co-production. While these two examples have very distinct characteristics, their comparative trajectories make it possible to raise more general questions related to the interactions between creation, production and distribution, as well as between narrative forms and productions (co/auto-production) in Palestinian cinema d’auteur. By highlighting the choices of production and distribution, the aim is to underline the problematic of the creation of Palestinian cinema d’auteur.

Résumé

Cet article explore les enjeux du « cinéma d’auteur » de Palestine et entend analyser les contraintes et les opportunités que ce cinéma permet, à travers deux cas d’études qui interrogent la création cinématographique de réalisateurs palestiniens en exil. Le premier est un long-métrage, Recollection de Kamal Aljafari, un cinéaste de « Palestine de 48 » qui a autoproduit son film ; le second, Dégradé d’Arab et Tarzan Nasser, deux réalisateurs de Gaza, a bénéficié d’une coproduction arabo-européenne. Si ces deux exemples revêtent des caractéristiques bien distinctes, leurs trajectoires comparées permettent de soulever des questions plus générales liées aux interactions entre création, production et diffusion, ainsi qu’entre formes narratives et productions (co/autoproduction) dans le cinéma d’auteur de Palestine. En mettant en avant les choix de production et de diffusion, il s’agit de souligner la problématique de la création du cinéma d’auteur de Palestine.
