Abstract

This new issue of Proche Orient, Études juridiques stands as a testimony, a mirror of a particularly turbulent period in Lebanese life. Originally, it intended to examine the legal dimensions of the crisis that has afflicted Lebanon since 2019, it inevitably engages with a phenomenon of multiple facets: political, economic, and constitutional. The crisis has been marked by the collapse of the financial system, the dispossession of depositors’ rights, the Beirut port explosion, impunity, institutional vacuum, and the paralysis of the Lebanese judicial system. The contributions that follow explore these themes, whether directly or indirectly, offering insights into the profound challenges confronting Lebanon’s legal and institutional order.

Ce nouveau numéro de Proche Orient, Études juridiques est d’abord un témoignage, le reflet d’une époque particulièrement tourmentée de la vie libanaise. À l’origine, il entendait se pencher sur les aspects juridiques de la crise qui frappe le Liban depuis 2019. Une crise aux dimensions multiples : politique, économique, constitutionnelle ; marquée par l’effondrement du système financier, la spoliation des droits des déposants, l’explosion du port de Beyrouth, l’impunité, le vide institutionnel et la paralysie du système judiciaire libanais. Les contributions qui vont suivre se penchent de près ou de loin sur ces différents sujets.
