Abstract

This article explores the translator’s personality and its effect on the translation process which may be evident through the personal imprints he/she leaves on the text. Therefore, this subjective factor may affect his/her work and could appear through many personal characteristics that distinguish each translator from his/her peers, such as creativity and intuition. It also points out that it is difficult, or even impossible, for the translator to remain neutral. The article presents a small-scale empirical study that sought to establish a relationship between the types of participants’ personalities and the quality of their translation of one genre of text rather than another. It also showed how these personalities were expressed on paper.

الملخص
يسلّط هذا المقال الضوء على شخصية المترجم وانعكاسها في عملية الترجمة، بحيث تتجلّى من خلال بصمته الذاتية التي قد يتركها على صفحات نصه. فهذا العامل الذاتي قد يؤثر في عمل المترجم ويظهر من خلال العديد من الخصائص الذاتية التي تميّز مترجمًا عن آخر، كإبداعه أو اعتماده على حدسه. كما يدلّ على صعوبة بقاء المترجم على الحياد، بل على استحالته. وتعرض المقالة لدراسة ميدانية مصغّرة سعت إلى الربط بين بعض الوظائف النفسية في شخصيات المشاركين وبراعتهم في ترجمة نوع من النصوص دون آخر، كما تبيّن كيف تتجلى تلك الشخصيات على صفحات الترجمة
