The Synodal Spirit in the Maronite Church: From the Lebanese Synod (1736) to the Maronite Patriarchal Synod (2003-2006)

Abstract

This article explores the evolution of synodality within the Maronite Church through the lens of two significant synods: 1736 and 2003-2006. By analyzing the historical contexts, theological issues, and pastoral practices of these assemblies, the author highlights the profound transformations of the Maronite Church in tein of ge vere otthe laity tom petit vatican II on episcopal collegiality, and the challenges and prospects of synodality in the contemporary context of the Maronite diaspora are at the heart of this research.

L'esprit synodal dans l'Église maronite. Du synode libanais (1736) au synode patriarcal maronite (2003-2006)

Résumé
Cet article explore l'évolution de la synodalité au sein de l'Église maronite à travers le prisme de deux synodes marquants : celui de 1736 et celui de 2003-2006. En analysant les contextes historiques, les enjeux théologiques et les pratiques pastorales de ces assemblées, l'auteur met en évidence les transformations profondes de l'Église maronite en matière de gouvernance et de rapport au pouvoir. L'évolution du rôle des laïcs, l'impact du Concile Vatican II sur la collégialité épiscopale ainsi que les défis et les perspectives de la synodalité dans le contexte contemporain de la diaspora maronite sont au cœur de cette recherche.
