L’Église copte orthodoxe et l’Église catholique : Relecture du dialogue bilatéral et perspectives d’avenir

Abstract

The theological dialogue between the Catholic Church and the Coptic Orthodox Church has gone through several stages. Today, it takes place within the International Joint Commission for Dialogue between the Catholic Church and the Oriental Orthodox Churches. The author, in a doctoral dissertation presented at the Faculty of Theology and Canon Law of the Catholic University of Louvain-La-Neuve, presents the history and content of the dialogue between Catholics and Copts in reference to the archives of Fr. André de Halleux, theologian and eminent member of this dialogue. By specifying the meaning and interest of this dialogue in its two-phase process, he seeks to outline some prospects for the future.

Résumé
Depuis la séparation chalcédonienne de 451, il y a eu plusieurs tentatives d’union entre Rome et le patriarcat copte d’Alexandrie. Cependant, la rencontre officielle entre les papes Shenouda III et Paul VI, en 1973, suivie d’une déclaration christologique commune a marqué le début d’un dialogue théologique entre les deux Églises : copte orthodoxe d’Alexandrie et catholique. Il s’agit d’un premier dialogue officiel avec une Église orthodoxe après le concile Vatican II qui confirme l’engagement œcuménique irréversible de l’Église catholique. Il constitue un signe visible du rapprochement entre l’Orient non chalcédonien et les Églises dites chalcédoniennes et le fruit de l’ouverture œcuménique du Concile.
