Abstract

The Assyrian Apostolic Church in Iraq remains unknown despite the tragic events that mark the existence of this country. The author of this article is an eyewitness who gathered the words, thoughts and hopes of the Assyrian Christians residing in Kurdistan. She has faithfully revealed their religious identity in all its richness and their history in all its ambivalence as well as the current ethnic, political and economic challenges and the perspectives for an enhanced future, which enliven them.


L'Église assyrienne apostolique en Iraq

Résumé
L'Église assyrienne d'Orient, dont il est question dans cet article, est l'Église qui s'est constituée dans l'empire perse, au début du christianisme. Son origine remonterait à la prédication des apôtres Mar Addaï et Mari. Elle est l'Église-mère de l'Église chaldéenne catholique qui s'est rattachée à Rome dès le XVI siècle mais qui a gardé sa tradition liturgique. Le siège patriarcal de l'Église assyrienne, appelée aussi syro-orientale, était situé à Séleucie-Ctésiphon, la capitale perse de l'époque. Au IXe siècle, il a été déplacé dans la nouvelle capitale, Bagdad.
